Erin Mills Middle School

Adopted by: Chapters Vega

Our library is in the process of being weeded. Many books have been removed because of physical condition and content. Our school is focused on diversity and anti racism. Our student body is diverse and our goal is to learn and dismantle racism. The Library Learning Commons is essential in this role, through resources, guest speakers, community events, and student groups. Having resources and spaces to discuss, learn, plan and act. A focus at our school is to identify the barriers students face and remove them. It is important for our staff to respect the culture of our students and encourage student agency. Having books from diverse authors helps students develop more confidence and it helps remove a regression by all staff and students to deficit thinking. Our library currently lacks depth and breadth in terms of diverse authors and perspectives and range of genres.
